This course is designed by Lee Pesky Learning Center, an Idaho based non-profit with more than 25 years of experience helping individuals, families, and educators diagnose, understand, support, and remediate language-based learning disabilities, including dyslexia. This 15-hour course meets the requirements for the Idaho Literacy Achievement and Accountability Act and teacher recertification. This course emphasizes the critical role of effective instructional supervision and evaluation in building a positive school culture. It provides an overview of Idaho's supervision and evaluation requirements, combining theory with practical exercises to develop participants' skills. Participants will become proficient in Idaho’s Framework for Teacher Evaluations and learn about evaluation techniques and Idaho’s legal requirements. As a result of active participation in this course, participants will: • Understand the Importance of Instructional Supervision and Evaluation: - Recognize the role of supervision and evaluation in fostering a positive school culture. • Master Idaho's Evaluation Framework: - Gain proficiency in Idaho’s Framework for Teaching, understanding its components and applications. • Develop Practical Supervision Skills: - Engage in interactive exercises to build practical skills in supervising and evaluating instruction. • Learn Evaluation Techniques: - Explore various evaluation methods and their purposes, including feedback for improvement, portfolio development, and personnel decisions. • Understand Legal Requirements: - Study Idaho laws, rules, and policies related to instructional supervision and evaluation. • Implement Effective Practices: - Identify and apply effective practices in supervision and evaluation to support instructional improvement and effective decision-making. • Enhance Leadership Capabilities: - Develop strategies for leading learning organizations, including mentoring, peer coaching, and evidence-based decision-making. • Build Assessment Literacy: - Develop a strong understanding of assessment principles and practices to effectively evaluate student learning and instructional effectiveness.

The course is 5 days. Day 1 – Characteristics of Dyslexia, Overview of the Reading by Design instructional program Day 2 – Phoneme Training, Alphabetic Principle. Lesson Cycle Day 3 – Word Study, Decoding, Syllable Types and Spelling Rules Day 4 – Comprehension, Morphology, Etymology and complete Lesson Cycle Day 5 – Identifying the Social Emotional need of Students with Dyslexia, Reviewing the Research and Lesson Practicums

This one credit professional development course prepares cooperating teachers to mentor high school Education Assistant students participating in a semester field experience. Participants provide authentic classroom experiences that introduce students to the teaching profession while developing mentoring, coaching, and reflective practices. Cooperating teachers support the student’s professional growth through guided experiences, regular feedback, and evaluation while helping cultivate the next generation of educators.
