Dyslexia Training for Educators - 2 Credits

The course is 5 days. Day 1 – Characteristics of Dyslexia, Overview of the Reading by Design instructional program Day 2 – Phoneme Training, Alphabetic Principle. Lesson Cycle Day 3 – Word Study, Decoding, Syllable Types and Spelling Rules Day 4 – Comprehension, Morphology, Etymology and complete Lesson Cycle Day 5 – Identifying the Social Emotional need of Students with Dyslexia, Reviewing the Research and Lesson Practicums

In addition to completion of 30 hours of instruction, participants will be required to do three hours of independent study. The independent study shall include the reading, phoneme and instructional practice , as well as reflection of one article related to remediation of dyslexia and social/emotional impact of dyslexia.
